For Everyone in and Around Basel

Rhystadt is developing a new urban neighbourhood on the Klybeck site together with the canton of Basel-Stadt and Swiss Life – creating added value for the entire region. Together with the planning partners, Rhystadt is creating space here for 8,500 residents and 7,500 jobs. The site will be as diverse as Basel and the people in and around the city: a vibrant, sustainable and mixed-use urban neighbourhood will gradually take shape.

Quality of Life for All

As the new neighbourhood takes shape, quality of life is at the heart of the development. The city will become more connected, with walls disappearing and new connections being created between the Wiese and the Rhine.

In between, new green spaces and open areas will emerge, meeting the diverse needs of the people. The number of trees will also be significantly increased.

Contemporary mobility is an integral part of the development. New routes will be created, with priority given to pedestrians and cyclists. Klybeckplatz will become a central hub, inviting people to linger, relax and chat.

Living, Relaxing, Working – a Great Place to Live

Over the next 20 years, a significant amount of new housing will be created, offering a diverse range of housing options. One third of the new homes will be offered at cost-based rents.

Many of the ground floors will feature uses that serve the neighbourhood. These include amenities that enrich everyday life and meet the needs of local residents, such as cultural facilities as well as cafés, shops and other businesses.

The development also provides space for jobs in future-oriented industries, such as life sciences.

Developed Together

To ensure that the new neighbourhood meets the needs of people in and around Basel, the public is involved in the planning process. At participation events and through other formats, topics such as open spaces and mobility have been discussed together. Rhystadt and its planning partners, the canton of Basel-Stadt and Swiss Life, aim to foster a constructive dialogue.
